Leadership: Strategy vs. biology

We just found an incredible film that we had to share.

Here Simon Sinek describes the biological reasoning for leadership in a manner that is the antithesis of the usual corporate leadership programme message. He describes the five main chemicals in our physiology that drive our behaviour, explaining why cavemen first developed them and precisely what they do for us (and to us) in work organisations today.

The section on the anthropological purpose of a company vision is particularly powerful and explains precisely why the majority of companies that undertake this task do so with such ineffective results.

There are lessons here for small business owners and freelancers too as the lessons on leadership strategy extend naturally into brand and customer marketing. It’s truly fascinating stuff and well worth 45 minutes of your time over lunch.
